He founded and ran Andin International (1981), a New York diamond and gemstone trading company with an initial capital of $50,000 and 3 employees. The company grew to $100 million and 10,000 employees worldwide. In 2009, the company was acquired by Warren Buffett and now has sales of $250 million/year.

He is the author of The Diamond Cutter, published by Doubleday, which tells the story of how he used ancient Tibetan wisdom to turn Andin into one of the fastest growing companies in New York City history. This is one of the best-selling business books, translated into more than 20 languages, with more than 3 million copies sold in 35 countries.

Michael Roach graduated with honors from Princeton University in 1974 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon. He also received the McConnell Scholarship Prize from the Woodrow Wilson Institute, Princeton. He has served as a consultant and member of organizations and government agencies such as the Library of Congress and the Russian Studies Association. He was the first Westerner to earn a Geshe degree from Sera Mey Monastery in Tibet, one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in the world. Michael Roach is fluent in Tibetan, Sanskrit, and Russian.
